The eyes of the world
Last week Morgan Williams, Head of Applications at Yahoo!7, spoke at the Library about Flickr, its features and how it can be used to crowdsource and curate local and family history. About 30 people came along and enjoyed not only the talk, but also the Flickr swag and Morgan’s engaging Welsh accent.
If you couldn’t make it (or want to refer back to them), here are his slides:
Geniaus, one of our regular guests, said that she had not thought of Flickr as a genealogy resource…
… but while Williams was talking I logged into Flickr Mobile on my phone and searched for photos of a few places that are significant in my family history. I found some wondeful images of Cobar, NSW and St Mary’s Church, Waverley. I have previously restricted my searches for historical Australian images to library and archives sites such as Picture Australia. Now I have a new source.
And here’s a link to The Williams Commons!
Our thanks to Morgan, and everyone who joined us on the night.
P.S. Make Mosman Library and Mosman Council your contact on Flickr, and we’ll see you there.
