Filming Mosman Faces

View photos on Flickr

On day one of filming we soon realized it was going to be easier to film in one place, the Library, rather than on location! It was ambitious and time consuming to heave all the film equipment into Paul Delprat’s home but the company and the stories were entertaining – and that was even before the interview and the morphing of Paul into the Prince of Wy began!

Time was of the essence as we tried to get hold of Barry O’Keefe, our next interviewee, via his work phone, home phone, mobile, and car phone to tell him we were running an hour late. We finally got on to his wife who said she would get in touch with him and on hearing we were filming decided on a change of tie for Barry. Message received and tie changed Barry O’Keefe arrived resplendent in stylish tie and proceeded to entertain us with his stories of ten terms as Mosman Mayor for the next couple of hours.

This was just Day 1 and only two out of ten interviews which would take up our time for the next couple of weeks. Our ‘crew’, besides me, included Damon Girbon, our professional filmmaker who was filming live and stills and Donna Braye, the Local Studies Librarian who was taking some extra stills, taking notes and prompting me for any questions I may have missed.

With Damon and Donna bringing the Faces to life through film my task was to get the words flowing and bring to life the stories unique to Mosman.

‘Mosman Faces’ is a project to build a visual history of Mosman through filmed interviews and items from our Local History collection. Stay tuned!
