Mosman Faces is back…

Oldest real estate business in Mosman run by the same family P.Leahy Pty Ltd

Mosman Faces is a site that tells stories through filmed interviews complemented by images from Mosman Library’s Local Studies Collection. These stories create a visual history of Mosman and continue to shape the Mosman community today.

One such story is that of Patrick ‘Paddy’ Leahy, 1855-1909.

Founder of P.Leahy Pty Ltd, Patrick and his new wife Ellen (nee Carroll) arrived in Sydney in 1890, first working as an Estate Agent in inner west Sydney, but not for long. Word was out that land in the picturesque harbourside suburb of Mosman was being subdivided and sold for residential development and ‘Paddy’ Leahy and his wife wanted to be part of the action.

Sometime late in 1890 ‘Paddy’ Leahy set up a sales office in a small weatherboard building on Military Road, Mosman Junction. In time he purchased land on the corner of Military Road and Avenue Road and erected his office where it still stands today, 125 years after he first founded his real estate business, a business older than the Municipality itself.

125 years of stories, of land and houses bought and sold, of a family that not only runs a real estate business but has produced two Mayors and continues to contribute to the rich fabric of the Mosman community.

So stay tuned for a story of survival in the bust and boom of Mosman real estate, five generations of the Leahy/Carroll family and still going strong.

A story, a photo, a subdivision plan or even a rent receipt welcome from clients past and present of P.Leahy Pty Ltd.
