Teen Book Review: Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan

In the almighty land of Araluen five 15 year old children are deciding what they want to be. One of them, Will, wants to be in battle school but he is too small. Horace, who bullies Will gets accepted into battle school. Jenny gets accepted as a chef. Alyss gets accepted into diplomatic studies and George gets accepted as a scroll writer. But Will wasn’t accepted into anything…just yet. The next day he sneaks into the Barron’s (head of castle Redmont) office to see what file a ranger gave him. He sneaked in there but was found by the ranger who accepted him as an apprentice ranger since he sneaked there without anyone else noticing. Will went out for adventures with Halt the Ranger and then received a horse named Tug. He learnt skills like tracking footprints and shooting bow and arrow. Later he saved Horace from a wild boar attack and they became friends. Meanwhile three older students at battle school are bullying Horace and he thought they were allowed to bully him. Halt teaches them a lesson about what happens when they mess with Will or his friends before they get expelled. Evil Lord Morgarath from Mountains of Rain and Night is planning a war.
Can Halt and Will defeat him and his army of Kalkara and Wargals?
