Sapphire Battersea is the second book from the exhilirating trilogy of Hetty Feather. Hetty sets her foot out of the founding hospital for the last time to start work as a maid. For the first time Hetty realises that life isn’t as simple as she thought. Fired from her job, Hetty sets out to find her mother, also working as a maid. Hetty meets many new and profound characters on the way. This impossible to put down book is recommended for 11-15 year-olds.

If you haven’t visited www.summerreadingclub.org.au yet, then now’s the time to do it!
Not only does it have an interview with the incredible writer, John Marsden, a Choose Your Own Adventure story and some cool games …they also have a super special weekly blog showing you how to draw manga in 5 easy video lessons!
Here’s the first video to get you started:
We had our Manga Appreciation Society on Tuesday 18 October and we all declared loudly and proudly who our favourite manga characters are and why. Here’s our favourite characters:
Darren Shan from The Saga of Darren Shan
Why? He’s a HALF VAMPIRE!
Mai Tokiha from My Hime
Why? She controls a giant dragon with a sword through its head!
Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail
Why? He can perform “lost magic”
Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail
Why? She always manages to get herself out of trouble. She’s kind, resourceful and good natured. She has a good sense of humour. She works with her Celestial Spirits to do good.
Uchiha Madara aka “Tobi” from Naruto – Shipuden
Why? He can be a goofball as ‘Tobi’, implemented his Sharingan into Sasuke and is one of the most powerful characters. he’s insane as well, no worries.
Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim
Why? Pure awesomeness sums her up! That and her ability to space travel. Her hair colour changes every week. Did I mention she’s awesome?
Takumu Usui from Maid Sama
Why? He’s the most popular boy at school but takes little interest in anything and prefers to observe. Extraordinarily talented in cooking, violin, chess and etiquette. Falls for Miasaki and teases and helps her whenever she needs it.
Miasaki Ayuzawa from Maid Sama
Why? First female student council president at her school. Exceptional academic. Great athletic skill. Secretly works as a maid waitress at a maid cafe. Strong sense of justice although has a tendency to forget her own wellbeing in the process of helping others.
Alucard from Hellsing
Why? He’s kind of a cocky jerk but he has the skills to back it up. He always seems so disappointed in the people he ends up fighting. I still don’t think we’ve seen the full extent of his powers.
Victorique from Gosick
Why? She’s incredibly gifted and analytic, but she’s still learning the importance of friendship. Like a little Victorian girl version of Sherlock Holmes.
Who is your favourite manga/anime character?
The Six Sacred Stones was my favourites Matthew Reilly book so far as it has more action, surprises and twists than any of the others. It was hard to put down and I finished it within less than a day.
I would recommend it to anyones who likes modern adventure books or Matthew Reilly.
